Pandalicious Presents: Fushigi Yugi Genbu Kaiden

Lets take it back one time for ya mind!

Hey all!
Pandalicious here giving you some more manga for thought. ^^

I haven’t been watching very much anime at the point because I’ve been consumed by the fiery rage that is World of Warcraft. Then again that’s a little bit of a lie. I did manage to watch the last Arc of Revolutionary Girl Utena and… That’s another post ALL together.

Anyway. For a little insight into the anime life of me, Pandalicious, one of the first series I ever watched and pursued like secret lover would was Fushigi Yugi, or Mysterious Play for you who got the VHS [back when it was the leading technology] dubbed version. [I did :D]

I went and got the whole series and then ventured to get the manga version too but slowly lost interest in that… Then out of the graces of Yuu Watase came Fushigi Yugi ~Genbu Kaiden~

Alright let me rewind and drop some info on those who haven’t seen this series. If and ONLY IF you can get over the “Miaka!” “Tamahome!” Complex [which is the complex I’ve coined as being when the majority of what is being said by these two is each others names] Then you will enjoy this. This series came to us back when series ran 50 odd episodes and left people wanting more AND then gave it to them in spades

Anyway for a synopsis of this series here it is on CRACK
Miaka is the priestess of Suzaku [read up on the four primary guardians that watch over Japan] Each guardian was represented by a cardinal direction. A girl from another world would appear in the world of the Universe of the Four Gods, and would be given three wishes. [Sounds good doesn’t it? Too bad there are catches. ]

Anyway…Miaka is trying to obtain that power…but she wasn’t the first…Who came before her? A girl named Takiko Okuda was the first to enter the book and become a priestess. She became the priestess of Genbu [which looks like a turtle…sort of.]

She has to go searching for the Genbu Seven. They are seven warriors who have a character on their body on the name of one of the seven constellations that is in the region of Genbu’s sky line. With them all assembled she would be able to summon Genbu and get her wishes granted. So, dealing with the reality of her real life, she is swished away to this world where those things cannot bother her. Or….will they?

If you are a lover of Fushigi Yugi, you’ll like this too!

Takiko’s journey hasn’t ended yet though. Only three books are out right now. I’m sitting on pins and needles for the fourth one.

Panda OUT.

Panda... I called you and told you that the 4th one was out a few weeks ago. I called really late one night about it, maybe you were sleep talking. I remember being really excited that I'd found it because it wasn't supposed to have been released yet.

This is one of those manga that I watch for and buy immediately after its released. Yeah, I'm that excited about it.

Hey panda!

You tell us to "read up on the four primary guardians that watch over Japan" and that's great but can a girl get a link? What do we look for if we go to wikipedia? 4 japanese guardians?! say whut?

This happens to me so often with Manga/Anime. They talk about shit that's well known in Japanese culture, and the rest of us are going WTF are you people talking about?!

Maybe you wonderous ladies can help with that a bit.

Look under Ssu Ling, Seiryu, Genbu, Suzaku or Byakko. I'm looking at Wikipedia right now and thats where you'll find them.
