I will preface this article with the fact that I have not completed Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1. Before you behead me, or throw out the rest of this article as the wanton drivel of a sad gamer I have to add that my lack of completion come not from lack of desire but mere lack of time.
Time keeps me from finishing this game. As we all know, time is a cruel mistress.
Completing any next-generation console version of a Ninja Gaiden game takes practice, patience, and time. You will have your butt repeatedly kicked. You will be be beaten over and over again by the same boss who are both difficult and cheap at the same time. At times, you will come to know that time is your only hope. That with time or [you will pray that in it] you will find some dodging/jumping/shuriken chucking strategy that will get you through your trial, just in time so you can advance to the next level and go through it all again with an AI opponent that is even more difficult. And you'll want to do it. Ninja Gaiden is just that freaking good, that the player will want to complete it just to prove to yourself and Team Ninja that you can.
The Sigma series carries on the tradition in grand form on the Playstation 3 platform.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 builds upon it's predecessor on the PS3 adding in some new modes of play, new characters, and more weapons than before. Starting with new modes of play Sigma 2 drops in an online co-op gameplay mode as well a bevy of beautiful female for the user to play through the story as. Starting with the purple loving kunoichi that we all know and enjoy ogling, Ayane.
While Ayane is probably best known for the Dead or Alive fighting game, she's made at least an appearance in each of the Ninja Gaiden games so it's only fitting that she finally become a playable character. [Much like Trish from the Devil May Cry Series] I did say there were a bevy of beautiful babes to choose from, and one does not a bevy make. Joining Ayane in the playable character spot are Momiji from the Ninja Gaiden DS title and Rachel from earlier Ninja Gaiden games. Each character has strengths and weaknesses that are all her own, and costumes to fit their personalities.
Rachel is clad in skimpy black and red leather with metal spikes in all the right places where Momiji [who is more on the side of a priestess than bounty hunter like Rachel] is clad in more of a traditional type white and red spiritual priestess outfit. Then there is Ayane's outfit, which I don't feel words do justice to, so I will just post a picture and leave it to you to figure out a proper description for it.
The only thing that gets me about this game is that the story from the previous game [featured on the Xbox 360 system] is still the same. Nothing that I have seen or read says anything about the tale being different, or seeing any other arcs of the story with the addition of the new playable characters but I still hold out hope for that to happen. While I love Ryu Hayabusa, and all the members of the Hayabusa clan I'd like to learn a bit more about how they came to be, and explore some of the other clan members' stories.
