Last night I was watching Robocop 3 and for the first time it struck me how much it was a commentary on the American/Japanese technological gap. There are two scenes in the movie where Robocop faces off against his Japanese counterpart. Robocop/Officer Murphy as played by Robert John Burke battles Otomo, a Japanese samurai robot played by Bruce Locke. These scenes show very clearly the differences in Japanese and American made technology.
Otomo appears to be a normal human and moves with a lithe grace. Robocop is a bulky metal man who moves incredibly slowly with herky-jerky motion. Japanese technology is small and sleek, it's all about finesse. American technology is bulky and slow and relies entirely on it's power. After Robocop destoryes Otomo, two more duplicate Otomo robots show up, reminding us all that the Japanese are masters of mass production.

I've got everything down to a science, unfortunately I was never any good with science.
