Godannar: Relationship Examinations Now With Nekkidness

    posted @ 9/01/2006 03:02:00 PM by Ninjasistah
Ok, I'm writing this from my Treo 650 so bear with me.

I have been watching this series called Godanner on the Anime Network, and I have to admit that I am addicted. The basics of the series are that it is a mecha, there is some super deformity going on it, lots of sexual innuendo, some nekkie time, all the comforts of a tongue in cheek anime comical bits. And the fun jumbly bits are fun, but they aren't the reason why I am addicted to the series. I do actually watch the series for it's plot. [no, it's not just a line]

I find the tension and relationship issues that are the core thread of the series between the main lead characters of Go Saruwatari and Anna Aoi are genuine in their sincerity. Go and Anna are newly married and have a lot of the regular down to earth issues that many couples have; they aren't sure of who they are as a couple, they bring into the marriage all of the emotional baggage and insecurities that had as individuals, and are learning how to share all those things with each other.

When times get rough, Anna initially runs off which is understandable because she's young [still in high school] and this relationship with Go is her first big and real relationship. Not knowing how to really communicate as an adult [you hope] would, she runs off and hides in order to take time to cool off and then address her feelings. I think it's kind of witty how the series uses the boobies and tongue in cheek humor to mask the genuine examination of relationship dynamics [slightly shallow as it is] in the series.

Godannar isn't all that deep, but it is a cute and entertaining way to look at several different types of relationships (including a homosexual one and incestuous one for those of you that like your anime with a touch of taboo).
