    MMO = Male Multiplayer Oppression?

    posted @ 9/27/2007 10:31:00 PM by Douceswild
    Were you upset to find out that hot night elf chick dancing in her undies and bra that you'€™ve been hitting on for months is a dude? It seems that Aurora Technology, the publisher of the Chinese MMORPG King of the World, is a bit pissed also.

    Male players choosing to play female characters logged in to find their accounts frozen. Now, only female players can play female characters and they are required to prove their gender via webcam. WTF is up with that? There i€™s no known official reason for the action but I a€™m guessing it'€™s to ensure that the people they were talking to were the gender they claimed they were. Here is the best part. Females, on the other hand, wanting to play male characters are still allowed to. I'm almost positive that's discrimination. This poses that question of what's to happen to those guys who had their female characters highly leveled and geared up? Do they have to start all over again?

    The webcam thing really won'€™t deter male players from making female character in my opinion. All they have to do is get a female friend to smile and wave in front of the webcam. As a male gamer and a hardcore mmorpg player, I a€™m EXTREMELY offended...
    Nah, I'€™m really not, but I SHOULD be. Male gamers have fought hard to establish themselves as equal gamers among women and to have our rights stripped away and trampled on€...Ok. I can'€™t keep a straight face any longer. The whole thing is unfair, but DAMN, it's funny!
