The Platinum Diaries | Rocket League

Why This Game?

Aside from being a pretty rad multiplayer game, Rocket League is easy to pick up and play, but difficult to master. When I started, I really had no intention of attempting to get the platinum trophy. After spending some time with it however, I noticed that many of the trophies had popped in just normal play, so I decided to put forth the extra effort and grab the coveted top-ranking trophy to commemorate my fun times with the car-based soccer game.

Was it Quick?

This one started out looking like it was going to be rather speedy. Trophies were popping left and right and that completion percent was climbing quickly. There are a few standout trophies however that did take some extra time. Particularly, unlocking all of the items was a big time suck. You need to finish a certain number of matches and you can only set the match time so low. It's not hard, especially if you're playing the game anyway, but it does take time. It took me about a week, just playing a few hours a day, to grab this platinum. (7 out of 10)

Was it Easy?

This ended up being a combination of yes and no. There were no trophies in this set that I felt I didn't have the skill to accomplish. Hitting in the backspin goal took me a few tries, but it really wasn't a big deal. The difficulty here lies more in the dedication and time commitment. This is the first and only trophy, the one involving driving on a particular set of tires, I've ever gotten by tying a rubber band around my controller. Getting it naturally, which I did attempt at first, was just too much of a slog and I ran out of steam fast. Aside from that, and the aforementioned "unlock everything" trophy, it's an easy path to the platinum. (7 out of 10)

Was It Fun?

I've harped on quite a bit on those grind-heavy trophies in there, but let me clarify once again that this game is a ton of fun to play. Honestly, just playing the game naturally will definitely get you there eventually. Just never switch your tires and you'll be good. The main game is probably one of the better multiplayer experiences to come out recently and the majority of those trophies can even be gotten rather quickly just playing the fun parts of this game. Taking the game and trying to grind out some of those other trophies does suck the fun out of the experience. All in all, I had a great time and consider it worth the effort. (8 out of 10)

Any Other Thoughts?

Similarly to Deadlight: Director's Cut, this is a relatively easy platinum in a fun game, right up until those last few trophies. They don't completely ruin the experience, but anything that inspires me to attach a rubber band to my controller can't be all that fun. That being said, regardless of whether you intend upon going for the platinum, you should definitely play some Rocket League. Heck, you may even decide to go for the platinum yoursel, just make sure you have some rubber bands ready to go.
