    Modern Warfare FTW!

Taking day sale records through the muftha effin roof!

If you haven’t noticed, I haven’t written in about a week. I apologize for that but it seems like the gamer world was preparing for a homeland takeover. That takeover was the release of Infinity Ward’s much anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Everyone and their mothers were talking about this game, and for the two days after the midnight launches everyone and their mothers WERE playing it.

It was announced yesterday (November 12, 2009) by the Activision camp that MW2 had the biggest launch in history across all other forms of entertainment. Estimating sell-through sales of $310 million In North America and United Kingdom in the first 24 hours alone. I guess it is safe to say that pairing up The US and UK in the first game paid off tremendously.

There was an instance where the world stood still. If anyone uttered a word it was to praise or condemn this action packed game. Praises sang out over the return of Soap MacTavish, one of the protagonists from the first game, the stunning graphics and even setting up instances where slight hesitation equals repetitive death on the side of the player.

The negative press with this game stemmed from a mission called “No Russian” where we (the US) send one of our own into a Russian terrorist cell. That cell then in turn slaughters a whole airport of innocent civilians. Now before I get chewed a new one for bringing this up, I must say that Infinity Ward was smart to give the player an option to not take part in that particular mission. However in my personal option, the story deems this mission necessary. So if you have yet to get this game, and were thinking of not doing this mission, I strongly urge you to do it.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that I am bringing this mission back up again especially since I did an initial piece about it. However, now that I own the game and have played it I have to ask: Are you curious about how I perceive it now? Well I am going to tell you anyway so I hope you are. Actually playing through this mission wasn’t as bad as just watching it. So the moral of the lesson kids is looking at something without knowing everything about it is a stupid shallow judgment. Don’t do it.

I only wish I could talk more in-depth about this game. However, since I was part of the unfortunate group of people waiting for the postal service to do me a solid and deliver it instantly (Yes I’m aware I have a skewed perception of the postal service); I have yet to get immersed into the story. Once I’m done with the story you’ll see me manning it up in multiplayer. See you on the front lines. Hurrah!
