    Game Hard But Game Safe

    posted @ 1/10/2008 07:50:00 PM by Douceswild

It’s a new year and ESH is still dedicated to bringing you as much gaming news as we can get our eager little hands on, regardless of it being good or bad. It saddens me to have my first article be on a not so joyous topic.

I think a lot of us agree that online gaming is fun. It has certainly raised the gaming industry to a new level in the past few years. On the other hand, online gaming can get out of hand if not kept proper perspective. If not careful, the online community can become a bit too personal to the point of being potentially dangerous.

Police investigation revealed that a 15-year old Spokane, Washington girl met 20-year old Joshua R. Stetar of Saratoga Springs, New York, while playing Halo on Xbox Live.

Police say Stetar and the girl had been talking since 2006, and that several times he had sent packages and flowers to her home, only to have them returned by her parents. The victim had also received several hundred text messages on her cell phone in 2007, forcing the victim's mother to change her daughter's number. However, Stetar was able to get the new number from someone and started sending the victim messages again.

One night the suspect sent a text message to the victim saying he was driving by her house at that moment in a gray Oldsmobile. The girl's parents were outside the home and in fact saw the car driving past.  A few minutes later. the victim received another text message from the suspect saying, "Tell the cops that I'm gonna rape you and your sister."

The girl's father placed a harassment call to police, who later learned the suspect was staying at the Econo Lodge. Officers found the Oldsmobile Cutlass with New York license plates in the parking lot.

During a police interview the suspect admitted he was able to get much of the girl's personal information such as her address and cellular telephone number by "Googling" her name. Stetar also said he flew to Spokane in October of 2007 and rented a U-Haul van to drive by the victim's house. The victim's mom says she was unaware of this visit. Stetar said he lived in New York and drove 40-hours straight to get to Spokane.

Stetar was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a Friday of one felony count of stalking. He was released the following Saturday.

    Lame Princess?

    posted @ 12/28/2006 08:02:00 PM by Ninjasistah
I'm a girl. I'm supposed to identify with the princess character in many stories right? So why do I absolutely hate the character of Himeno in Pretear: The New Legend of Snow White?

    [Updated to add candy-rating]

Probably because after watching the first four episodes of the series OnDemand I decided this was one princess not worth saving.

Pretear is the story of this girl Himeno who is an outcast among her classmates and new step family. She has no real friends or companions other than her father who is distracted by his new wife... who happens to be loaded. All this changes the day the Leafe Knights enter her life and it turns out she is their Pretear... a princess of the spirit of life that has the abilities to merge with any Leafe Knight and add their power to her own. Evidently there are some monsters out in the world sucking the life out of things and it's up to the knights and Himeno to stop them. As is with many "super girl" series the "heroine" starts out a lame duck and is supposed overcome the obstacles ahead and lead to the happy ending... which I'm sure is how this series plays out... but I just can't stand to sit through the episodes.

Himeno is whiny, indecisive, and just plain boring. Almost all of her problems would be solved by her standing up for herself. Can't get your stepsister to say more than one word to you, assert yourself and speak up. Girls talking about you at school in front of you or behind your back, confront them. Himeno just sulks and retreats inside herself. She doesn't even involve her dad in what is going on in her world. The only time she ever turns to someone other than herself is to get some training from one of the knights named Sasame. Now, Sasame is by far the most sincere of the knights and though he is a handsome devil, he's not the love interest for Himeno. That falls squarely on the shoulders of the asshole Hayate. But I'm getting off track. Back to the lame duck.

Himeno is the kind of lead anime character that I hate. She's just plain lame. Nothing about her is remotely interesting. She has no character traits that make you want to watch her or root for her. Add to her lameness the canned animation that runs when she "preets" or merges with one of the knights looks like something out of a cross between the opening of a waltz and an orgasm, and you've totally turned me off. Why is it so hard to write or craft an anime series with a young female who isn't either super endowed by the titty fairy or jailbait that's missing a few brain cells? I don't think that the audience would mind a series where the lead female had brawn, brains, and beauty. I think many would welcome a series that featured a great story/narrative of a female lead, so where is that title? Where is the story of the girl who gains a tremendous power to do good or evil with and must figure out what side she wants to play for? Then she meets someone that travels with her for a while and exposes her to some ideals that she may not have ever come to know without their meeting that challenges all of the things she's believed up until that point? I think that could be an interesting story, and the "power" she has would be the thing that allowed the series to feature action sequences galore.

C'mon anime creators... get on the ball. I give Pretear a 1 outta 5. Half an aqua-green candy for the attempted kawaii aspect of Himeno's interactions with her dad and Sasame, and half a brown one because, well, I think it shits the bed. Yup.

What Is Anime Doing To Me?!

    posted @ 9/12/2006 02:06:00 PM by Pandalicious
I am being corrupted and for once I don't think I'm liking it!

Hello Everyone...Panda here. Today while sitting among fellow students in an *OBVIOUSLY* boring college class I began to daydream[something I do more often than not, I'll admit] Also, I do tend to daydream about the opposite sex...[this I find normal] But today like most other days I daydreamed of fictional men....of the...anime persuasion. [Ahh yes] It was while doing this that I noticed that all the anime men, that I've come to lust over are...well...EXTREMELY UNDERAGED?!

I mean, take Heero from Gundam Wing [*Drools* ACK I did it again!] He is only 15. In the state of Pandaville [where I reside] I'd go to Panda State Prison for the things I've thought about doing to Heero. [And you don't want to know what happens to cute little pandas like me there...*shudders*] Van from Escflowne...too young...Kazuki from Comic Party...too young!!! They are all jailbait young, yet so...soo DESIRABLE [ACK NO PANDA BAD PANDA!]

The only males who have been my age or older than me that I've dug were the Porco Rosso dude [who was a pig!] Vampire Hunter D [dude, he's immortal...waaay too old for me] Howl from Howl's Moving Castle [is in love w/someone else?!] Cho Hakkai. [turned demon after his wife killed herself] Oh wait...there is Alcard...oh wait...Integra! UGH!

All the guys that are in a sense available are underage sex puppets! OH WHY FATE! Why embed that into my mind?! I'm going nuts!

Thoughts I'd share my malady with you!
