Here are the video games you're giving for Christmas

With the World Serirace starting, the college and pro football seasons in full force and a U.S. presidential vote coming up, it's natural to be thinking in terms of winners and losers.

One such organization that's always thinking about winners is Nielsen, best known for its TV ratings, but which also performs an annual "Game Rank," a measure of the most sought-after video games for the upcoming holiday season.

And now Nielsen has delivered its ranking of the winners it sees for Holiday 2016. So, if you haven't decided what to give Junior for Christmas, and you always give what everybody else is giving as gifts, this is as good a guide as any.

The big winners in the Nielsen Game Rank are Battlefield 1 from Electronic Arts and Call of Duty Infinite Warfere from Infinity Ward, both first-person shooters. They both have a 96 percent rating and top the list because they are available on multiple platforms. Other multi-platform top performers include Final Fantasy XV (95 percent), Batman: Return to Arkham (83 percent) and Mafia III (83 percent).

In other Nielsen categories, Gears of Wars 4 leads the games exclusive to the XBox One (99 percent), Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20-year Celebration leads PS4 games (91 percent), and Paper Mario Color Splash is at the top of Wii U games for the holidays (92 percent). On the PC, Civilization VI is expected to lead the charge (94 percent). Pokémon Sun barely edges out Pokémon Moon at 99 percent vs. 98 percent on the Nintendo 3DS, and Criminal Girls 2 Party Favors sits alone at the top of the list for the PS Vita. Which, of course, begs the question: what is Criminal Girls 2 Party Favors?
