EA Retracts Statement On Linked Forum and Game Banning

    posted @ 10/31/2008 10:25:00 AM by Douceswild

EA's C&C Community Manager has since retracted his statement made yesterday on the official forums about connecting the forum login and EA game login, resulting in simul-ban. (Story here).

I'll save you the link click to his official posting and put it here.

If you didn't notice, your C&C Community Manager, me, had a bit of a run-in with the video game blogging media today in reference to a direct quote I made on our forums here a few days ago in regards to how we handle bans and suspensions on the forums and in-game. You all know how we are greatly trying to protect and serve you from those who wish to disrupt our C&C community by breaking ToS on our forums or in-game, and I know everyone appreciates when we take action on those that are the worst.

That said, the previous statement I made recently (that's being quoted on the blogs) was inaccurate and a mistake on my part. I had a misunderstanding with regards to our new upcoming forums and website and never meant to infer that if we ban or suspend you on the forums, you would be banned in-game as well. This is not correct, my mistake, my bad.

If we suspend or ban you from the forums, that does not affect your in-game account and certainly it does not impact your in-game account for other games. Quite often we usually warn you before taking any type of action, suspend you before considering any type of ban, etc. I am sure you guys know that we are fairly tolerant and stress that you please show respect to others, but we also understand the forums are a place to be heard and express your opinion in a constructive manner. Everyone has their "flame" moments.

Your Posting in our official C&C EA Forums is enabled by an EA Nucleus account (the Master EA Account you typically login with to chose your Persona) -- but access to the forums and access to the games are separate. Players who have been banned from EA Forums are not automatically banned from online access to their other EA games, or the game associated with that particular forum. Players can be warned, suspended, and/or then banned if they breach the Terms of Service or Code of Conduct in a forum, game or service. Each forum, game and service is managed independently by our customer support representatives responsible for that specific forum, game or service.

Suffice to say, when we take action on someone on our C&C forums here, for any number of ToS breaking reasons, it does not impact your C&C game account or any other EA Game Account connected to your forum name. The mods here do a great job of alerting me when we need to warn someone or take further action, if I haven't seen it myself or heard it in a thread from one of you, but any action we take on a C&C Forum User, doesn't impact their in-game status.

I apologize for the misunderstanding, but I hope everyone is able to see the greater good intent in that we are simply trying to keep the forums and in-game as friendly and fun environments as possible, just know that those two environments are treated seperately by myself, the mods, and especially our Customer Support team. =)

    Sincerely,
    APOC

So all is as it should be as I said on the latest Geek Aggro episode. Forum and game access should remain separate from each other when it comes to banning purposes.

EA Says "ALL Your Logins Are Belong To Us."

    posted @ 10/30/2008 11:34:00 PM by Douceswild
EA tightens the noose around your nuggets even more with their lastest action. The company has taken steps to connect your forum and game login and password. So if you get banned from the forums for whatever reason, then you also will not be able to log into your paid in full EA games such as Spore, or Red Alert 3 until they deem you fit to return to duty.

"Your forum account will be directly tied to your Master EA Account, so if we ban you on the forums, you would be banned from the game as well since the login process is the same. And you'd actually be banned from your other EA games as well since its all tied to your account. So if you have SPORE and Red Alert 3 and you get yourself banned on our forums or in-game, well, your SPORE account would be banned to. It's all one in the same, so I strongly recommend people play nice and act mature."

"All in all, we expect people to come on here and abide by our ToS. We hate banning people, it makes our lives a lot tougher, but its what we have to do.

One-Legged Woman Kicks Paul McCartney's Ass

    posted @ 3/18/2008 12:27:00 AM by evermore
So here's the high point of the story: The Beatle wants to give her $30 million, but the court awards her $50 million for the divorce. What would you call the story?

    Here are some more observations...

How will the EA vs. Take-Two battle turn out?

EA drags Take-Two into their car, royally screwing the company. Then after paying an exhorbitant amount of money to Take-Two, EA shoots 'em in the head, steals back all the money, then takes off in the car.

Who really won the HD disc format wars?

Toshiba, for getting out of the business before the bottom really fell out.

    Why do you say that?

It'll take years before a significant number of Blu-Ray movies can be available. There are few Blu-Ray disc manufacturing plants and the mastering process itself is much more difficult than HD-DVD. No computer manufacturer wants to put a Blu-Ray player into a computer unless it can also (a) play and record regular DVD discs and (b) also record Blu-Ray discs. And no one can make the dual-laser machines small enough for a laptop computer.

    Is that all?

Why, no. There's one more big impediment for Blu-Ray. It's owned by Sony, which owns movie studios and audio recording companies. Why should Universal, EMI, Disney or Paramount put their wares on Blu-Ray when they also have to compete in the marketplace with Sony. And when push comes to shove in a typical Blu-Ray manufacturing plant, who do you think is going to get preferential treatment? Why, Sony, of course. Microsoft has already said it's not going to put Blu-Ray on the XBox 360.

What's your last word on the subject?

Have you noticed that the price of Blu-Ray players has gone up since Toshiba announced the demise of HD-DVD. For Sony, that's like shooting yourself in the foot with a Super Soaker filled with acid.

Ziff-Davis filed for bankruptcy. Are they going out of business?

Chapter 11 bankruptcy affords a business the ability to restructure their finances, potentially making the company stronger than before. This, of course, does not apply to Ziff-Davis. They print stuff on expensive, UV-coated paper, where the addition of colored inks adds thousands of dollars to the process. They send out their tomes via the ultra-expensive U.S. mail to people who hesitate paying outlandish subscription prices, most of whom have to be fooled into thinking their subscription is about to run out, when they actually have nine more months of magazines coming to them. And all this in order to deliver stories, most of which were written and edited months ago. Magazines have been deforesting the Western Hemisphere for 100 years -- the "green" hue and cry is only beginning. Ziff -- and all other magazine publishers -- are about to die.

    Which Pokemon would you eat?

Being a vegetarian, I never have to worry about answering that question, but you can see what others have chosen here.

New Podcast Day: Heading to Anime Boston

    posted @ 3/17/2008 12:02:00 PM by evermore
With Anime Boston coming up this weekend, the Sistahs are excited as they can be. And that excitement shows in this week's episode of the podcast.

In addition to a preview of Anime Boston, the Sistahs discuss all facets of gaming. NinjaSistah talks about EA trying to take over Take Two, makers of the Grand Theft Auto series. And Pandalicious goes on and on about dating sim games -- particularly focusing on the question, "why aren't girls the protagonist in these games?"

In any case, it's well worth your hour and seven minutes to listen in. And in case you were wondering, here are the titles they rejected for this week's episode:

    NinjaSistah's Not Gonna Like This

    posted @ 5/09/2007 12:38:00 PM by evermore
See this mean lookin' dude in the graphic at the left? That must be what NinjaSistah looks like right about now. She's gotta be hoppin' mad because EA has delayed shipment of Spore for another year.

That's right. Spore, the game where you literally build a civilization starting with single-celled amoeba, has been delayed until April 2008, according to a story from Reuters.

Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) announced the delay would cause the company to fall to a net loss for fiscal 2008. Why does Spore singlehandedly bring down such a big company? Mainly because EA owns all rights to the game, unlike games like Madden, on which EA has to pay big royalties to the NFL and its players.

According to Reuters, "profit margins on the game (Spore) should be 80 percent or higher, compared with around 30 percent for other upcoming titles like 'Crysis' and 'Mercenaries 2: World in Flames,' which EA is publishing with partners, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter said."

So NinjaSistah's gonna be disappointed. Perhaps she can create a world in The Sims in which EA puts out Spore this year. She could then reward the Spore developers with a hot tub party.
