PrE3 2011: The Big Three

E3 2011 starts 3 weeks from today, so my mind has officially drifted to what goodies each of the big 3 companies have in store for all of us.  While it seems like there will be tons of new software this year, there is also quite a bit of new hardware to play with as well.  Not to mention the fact that there will always be some surprises that haven’t managed to have been leaked just yet.  So, I’m going to take some time today to go through some of the things I’m looking forward to getting my hands on when ESH takes E3 by storm.

Nintendo always has a few things up its sleeve, even if it tends to fall out of their sleeve before they intend on occasion.  Last year, even though they made the official announcement before E3, the 3DS had a huge presence at the show and was by far the most exciting thing I saw.  This year, they’ve got a similar vibe going on with their Project Café.  There haven’t been many official details released about the successor to the Wii, but rumors abound and while some of them are ridiculous, some are very exciting and I can’t wait to see what they show.  Still, I always like to think that with everything they put right in front of us, they’ve got three more waiting behind their back.  Even though they’ve promised something really cool for the anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, we still have yet to see anything.  With Zelda being more important than a positive balance in my bank account, I’m hoping for something awesome.

The major buzz last year for Microsoft was their Kinect hardware.  It was new and exciting, but there is still a lack of games for the body-sensing peripheral.  Microsoft has promised that there will be quite a few additions to the library by the end of the year, so I’m definitely hoping to see some more of those.  The proof of concept for Kinect has been irrefutable for how many amazing ways it can be used.  Time for Microsoft Game Studios and some of those third party developers to step in and put that camera through the gauntlet.  I have no doubt that there will be some amazing things to see this year from the Xbox side of things.

The company with the most cards already on the table, in my opinion, would definitely be Sony.  Not only do they have the NGP to show off at this years show, but a slew of games coming this year that I personally would rather not have to wait for.  There are two important factors that I would love to hear about the system codenamed Next Generation Portable: Price and release date.  Seeing some of the games in action will also greatly help in my opinion of the portable device.  There are also some AAA titles such as inFamous 2 and Uncharted 3 to look forward to as well.  Uncharted 3 in particular has quite a legacy to uphold and while it looks fantastic thus far, it seems almost insurmountable to surpass the second game’s quality.  I would also love to see some announcements about the status of some Playstation Move games.  Where in blazes in Sorcery?

All of this to look forward to and this barely scrapes the surface of what is going to be at the 2011 E3 show.  I can’t wait to see all the reasons why I’m going to be broke for a long time coming!
