Sailor Moon Crystal comes to home video in August

The much-anticipated Sailor Moon Crystal home video release is set for Aug. 16. The Set 1 edition will be available in a limited edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and a multi-disc standard edition DVD set.

Fans who pre-order from Rightstuf.com will receive a special acrylic sun-catcher, featuring the Sailor Guardian team.

The set comprises the first 14 episodes of the reboot of the classic anime series, based on Naoko Takeuchi's original Sailor Moon manga series, along with several extra bonus features. Uncut English-dubbed as well as Japanese dialogue options subtitled in English are offered in both editions.

The Blu-ray/DVD limited edition contains a four discs, two DVDs and two Blu-rays, seven full-color collectible art cards and a premium full-color art booklete. There are also series trailers, a digital art gallery and a special “Introduction to Sailor Moon Crystal” featurette with the English voice actors. Blu-ray episodes are presented in 1080p HD video format from the Japanese home video masters.

The standard DVD Set features four discs. Episodes will be presented in 480p standard video format.

Just in case you've gotten this far in the story and still don't know what the series is about, VIZ Media provides the following synopsis: "Sailor Moon Crystal tells the story of Usagi Tsukino, an awkward teenage girl whose life is turned upside-down when she becomes Sailor Moon, guardian of justice and the Legendary Silver Crystal. With Tokyo under constant threat from the dark forces of Queen Metalia, Usagi’s arrival couldn’t have come at a better time. And luckily, she won’t have to do it alone. Other Sailor Guardians are awakening to join in the fight."
