The amazing world of Pokémon, one of the most cherished franchises to ever exist turns 20!

Pokémon has made its mark throughout history, imbedding its name and characters into the hearts of fans all over the globe. They have capitalized on their success and have produced everything from video games, card games, to manga’s and cinematic productions.

In honor of their 20th anniversary, Nintendo is launching a huge celebratory campaign for Pokémon that is scheduled to last all year. They are planning on releasing an enormous amount of Poke’-swag on a monthly basis, so whether if you've just immersed yourself in the franchise with the latest generation (Pokémon X and Y) or if you’ve been a fan since Pokémon red and blue, there is going to be something for everyone to enjoy.

Here are a few of the things Nintendo has planned:

A Year of Mythical Pokémon!
From February till December 2016, fans will be able to receive a Mythical Pokémon either via Nintendo Network or at participating GameStop stores. These Pokémon are not available during normal gameplay so if you want to own them (the legit way) don’t miss out! Click here for the calendar with more info on who will be released and when.

The games remain true to the originals, complete with monochromatic pixel art and 4-bit background music. All three games are available on the Nintendo eShop as February 27th.

Additionally, in case you haven’t picked up a Nintendo 3DS yet, Nintendo released a Special Edition 3DS that comes with both Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue pre-installed.

These are just a few of the amazing things Nintendo has planned for us throughout the year long celebration. Be sure to check out the Pokémon 20th Anniversary site for more details and updates!
