HomeVideo Games (Page 108)

Last year, at E3, I got a few precious minutes to get my hands on a lovely online multiplayer title called Starhawk.  Last week, the private beta went public and let everyone with a Playstation Plus account join in on the action.  Being a huge fan of its predecessor, Warhawk, I’ve been excited to see how this game measures up.  I’m happy to report that it’s looking quite good and plays even better.

Last year, it was wonderful to be a gamer.  Apparently, it was also of great advantage to be a sequel, as all five of my favorites clearly illustrate.  To review, the five titles that tickled my fancy were as follows:  Batman: Arkham City, Dead Space 2, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and Portal 2.  While all of these games are amazing, one stood out above the rest and made my 2011 the best that it could be.

Are you looking for anime that's somewhat off the beaten path? Um, how 'bout crazy walking fish and shark monsters?

The final pre-game candidate is an amazing first-person experience which reintroduces an iconic villain to the series and adds some amazing new features.  Obviously, I’m talking about the impressive first-person puzzler Portal 2.  You may, at this point, be wondering why there is an obvious Skyrim-esque void in this list.  With a playtime of about six hours thus far, I felt it a bit unfair to include it.  For the record, from what I’ve played of it, Skyrim was one of the best games I played last year.  Now, let’s travel back in time to 2007 when Valve gave the world the wonderful gift that was Portal.

Thinking back to the history of sequels, it’s a rare treat when they are just as good as their predecessor.  Even more rare are the sequels that far surpass what came before them.  The Uncharted series started with a bang and brought cinematic action to the Playstation 3 in a time when it truly needed a hit.  It was a fantastic game, so when a sequel was announced, it was hard to imagine it being much better.  Thankfully, what came of that situation was one of the best games to have been released on the Playstation 3.

There are only two sequels I have ever wanted to materialize: one of them is Shenmue 3, and the other is Beyond Good and Evil 2. Shenmue 3 is a dream at this point,  but if this footage gives me

Greetings fans of the awesome! It's Tuesday and with it comes the new episode of the ESH podcast. It should have been here yesterday but the new master of ceremonies,Pandalicious, forgot. What a great start to 2012 am I right? :) Regardless, this

Devoted fans of The Legend of Zelda series can certainly be a fickle bunch.  If the last game in the series was too much like A Link to the Past's tried and true formula, the fans cry out for change.  If a game deviates too far, they all demand a return to the series roots.  Today's pre-game, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, fell into the latter category.
