Katsucon has come an gone and let me tell you, it was quite an experience. It happened to be my first Con, and that made everything even crazier. I'll get into more details later, for now I'll give you the short summary of the drunken escapades.

When I was on the way there, I really didn't have any idea what to expect. My first impression was in no way disappointing, skimpy women in cosplay outfits! It was like a dream come true. >.> There was just a little problem, mainly the prison sentence involved. Fear not though dear readers, I found hentai based on all of it when I got home. =D

Most of the first night wa just like hanging out with friends, friends that you only know about half of what they are saying. I did manage to get the biggest Chipotle burrito though. It exploded like a pimple, oozing its guacamole upon the world. then came the drinking! Too be honest the first night was kind of hazy. I played a board game with a bunch of people and it involved cars. It was called Top gear, based off of the show I have never heard of before. Can anyone tell me if it is any good?

The next day was a blast! I got to meet webcomic artists like the Applegeeks guys, the OotS dude and even my favorite artist (Jamie from Angry Zen Master and Erfworld.) I also got to play drunken patty cake. Strangely, I am a lot better at it drunk, I didn't even have to look. I got to see a panel called The Iron Artist (which I will talk about later) and then we went to the cosplay (which will have more talking about too). From here it gets kinda jumbled.... I went to the rave, in my drunken stupor I wandered out into the hotel. I ended up with a group of swingers and we went and saw some hentai. Hentai is actually really funny when you are drunk and in a group of 150 people.

But enough about my experiences there, stay tuned Space Cowboy for more on the con itself! If you wanna share con experiences or even plan something fun at the next area con (I wanna go to them all!) send an e-mail to monkeydoo@electricsistahood.com or catch me on aim at Monkeydooinc.

To make up for how messed up X-box Live was, Microsoft is offering Undertow for free. There is just one catch though.

It's only free until 11:59 pacific time tonight. So hurry up and start downloading. It seems kinda cool but I haven't even finished getting it myself. It's got 16 person multi player though. After I get it done, the multiplayer brawl is so on!

The game is basically an underwater brawl for control of the ocean with three different races and four different units for them. It looks really shiny and cool. Check out the screen shots right here.

    Soul sucking fun!

The new expansion for Dawn of War is finally playable in demo form! I got to sit down and play it and lemme tell you, it is wicked cool!

This expansion lets you play as the space pirate slavers known as the Dark Eldar and the religious zealots called the Sisters of Battle. It doesn't let you play the Sisters in the demo, but if they are anything like the table top game they will be ridiculously awesome.

The Dark Eldar are the focus of the demo and they are wicked cool! With them as a playable race there is now a third thing to harvest. You actually harvest souls! You have a vehicle that will do it in battle, but you can also sacrifice your slaves to earn soul points too. You take these soul points and you spend them to do wicked cool things like enable a unit to see stealth units or fill the battlefield with screams that lower morale. It's really really awesome!

If you wanna check out the demo yourself you can grab it over at fileshack. Here is the link:right here.

Nightmare of the Montana Mob 2

posted @ 1/24/2008 11:57:00 PM by Monkey Doo
Editor's note: Click here to see Part 1 of this tale

I stumbled weakly up the stairs, covered in blood and glitter. Marks from their claw like finger nails cover every inch of exposed skin. I can still see their faces in my mind, their shitty make-up, the sparkling evil in their eyes. The worst part was the sound though, oh the terrible sound. The singing of hundreds of off key girls still rattles my brain, and I can hear it coming up the stairs after me.

I take off down the new platform, the stairs had led me to another subway platform. I looked at the arrival time for the next train here and lost all hope of using that as an escape. I ran down the platform to the end, looking for some way out, something. There by another set of stairs that led above ground, was my hope.

Like some strange movie style coincidence, a barrel of gasoline had conveniently been left next to the cherry picker it had been fueling. I dumped much of it onto the ground and saved the rest for the girls. As the slowly marched toward me I began to douse them in it. They took it without even flinching. Tossing the empty barrel aside I pulled out my matches and broke the first two trying to get them to work. The third one, however, lit without a problem. I tossed it onto the gasoline and watched as the fire took to not only it, but the massive amounts of hairspray in their hair too. I got in my best pose and laid down a really wicked line, "Fire... uh... burns!"

I got on the rail to go home, the days work weighing on my sore legs. I collapsed into a rough and slightly seat, too tired to care. That's when a terrible thought hit me. There were an awful lot of girls under the age of twelve on this rail.

I shift uncomfortably in my seat as I attempted to assess what was really going on. All the girls had skimpy clothes, slut make-up and blonde wigs. I tried to just ignore it, not wanting to admit what was really going on.

Nothing could prepare me for what I saw as I got off at Metro Center to switch rails. Hundreds of Hannah Montana's. They stood about, giggling and singing and other strange and foreign things. I took a single step off the rail and it sped off, leaving me to my sea of sorrow. Before I could even start to sneak by, one head turned and looked to me. Before long every Montana eye was on me, malice in their eyes.

    Best Manga EVAH!!!!

My favorite manga of all time has finally come to America! It is absolutely totally wicked cool! It's a series called King of Thorn and I'll tell ya why it is worth checking out.

It's about a disease that has come to the world. This is no ordinary virus though. Anyone who is exposed to it has a very limited time before they turn to stone. In a desperate attempt to save humanity, a portion of the worlds population is locked into cryogenics so that they can be freed once a cure has been found. The only problem is that when they wake up, things are not exactly what they were expecting.

The art in this series is absolutely awesome. Not only do the people and the locations look amazing, but the fight scenes are done incredibly well too. If you are a fan of action, adventure, and crazy plot twists, check this one out! You definetly won't be sorry.

    A Marvel Fanboys Wet-dream

I had always been interested in comic books, but I never really had the time or the money to pick up every issue of something, let alone a place to store it. Marvel.com has come out with just the thing for me though, and maybe you too.

It's called Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited, and basically... it rocks. It has just about every comic book series from origins to somewhere in the new millennium on it. I can read the original 1963 X-men stuff, or go as recent as some Civil War and House of M goods. And when I get tired of that, I can go read some Planet Hulk.

I haven't quite figured out their update schedule. They have a wealth of information to put up on the site and I imagine that keeps them mighty busy. I also think they won't post something until they feel it is no longer viable to sell in paper form. I'm not complaining though, there is enough to keep me busy there for years. There is a lot of stuff there, but there is also a lot of stuff missing too.

For just $10 a month or $60 for a years subscription you can get all this on marvel.com. The interface needs a little work but for what comes to $5 bucks a month for the year pass, it's more then worth it. I have read five times that in paper comics already, and thats only the tip of the iceberg.

    The Return of a Company

posted @ 8/26/2007 02:49:00 AM by Monkey Doo
Creative Sparks was a video game company that existed in the 1980's. After releasing several video games, it went the way of the fallen leaf like that of many similar game development houses of the time did.

Now, however, Creative Sparks has reformed with some of the old cast, and they have a game in the works that has definitely grabbed my attention.

The working title on it thus far is simply "Pirate Simulator." They claim it will be the most realistic pirate simulator to do, with all kinds of cool features. The time line for your adventure is from 1500 till 2000. As the years go by, the ships become better and better. Your original character won't be in charge anymore of course. Your ship and fleet will pass to your family or your first mate depending on whether you get married or not. You can choose from any number of nations, or just sail under your own flag. The game itself looks gorgeous, but I think a picture or two speaks more then anything I could say.

That's just a small taste of the wicked coolness of this game. =D You can definetly expect cool things from Creative Sparks because they are not only working on this, but they are starting work on a Starfleet simulator.

I've got a nice little tidbit for all you City of Heroes fans out there. Apparently NCsoft decided that City of Heroes would fit better on a bigger screen. In fact, they decided it needed to be on the Big Screen.
Both the movie rights and the TV rights of City of Heroes has been sold to producer Tom DeSanto, whose latest work is the Transformers movie. He plans to make three live action movies, with a TV show to follow. Which villains are up first for the heroes? Why, none other then the alien bad asses, the Rickti. All and all, it sounds like it has the potential to be some sweet shit.

Tired of your bitch coming in between you and your WoW? Sick of missing raids because she wants to spend more time together? If so, then Blizzard has just the right thing for you to help shut her up!

Now you can buy her silence and earn WoW time too! Blizzard and Visa have come together to make a series of platinum credit cards with various Warcraft related pictures on them. You can get a card with one of the 10 races on it, a Horde card, an Alliance one, or one with the World of Warcraft logo in the middle. Here as an example of one of the thirteen wonderful cards you can choose from:

Every dollar you spend buying your ladies affection and tolerance awards you a point, get 1500 points and you have earned yourself a month's play time! It's a few dollars spent towards getting laid and getting to play WoW without grief and I think it is well worth it! Hell, if you spend enough you might even get both at the same time!

    Dirty Thoughts and Cheating.

posted @ 2/15/2007 01:18:00 AM by Monkey Doo
I used to spend long nights with my WoW, strolling through the Barrens or killing the bosses of Strat again and again. Now... now it's just not the same....

I... I thought indecent thoughts the other night. Alone, in the dark, and on the computer I wondered what other MMo's are out there. I wondered what Vanguard would be like, or Warhammer Online, and even if I should give City of Heroes another try. Me and CoH had started so well together but we just hit a rough patch, maybe I should put my WoW aside and give it another chance.

I felt so dirty afterwards. I felt like I had cheated. But... it's not bad to think impure thoughts is it? It's not like I went out and you know... bought a new game.... I am sure everyone gets those same thoughts and still has a wonderful and healthy relationship with their MMo. I figured I could just lay down, have a good nights sleep, and feel better in the morning.

It didn't work that way though.... When I woke up the next day I still had that same feeling, that same longing to go somewhere else and try something new. I even took it a step further that morning. I got online and looked at all the MMo's, especially the ones that had the first month free and even... even a couple of those whores that are free all the time. I looked them over, wanting, no yearning, to make space on my hard drive for them. I even went so far as to delete some old videos and pictures of mine but I stopped because I had to go to work.

When I got home I... I took it that final step. I downloaded EVE Online. I only played it a little bit! I didn't get to in depth with it or anything. But it was too late, I had crossed that line and I could never go back. I tried to justify it, but it wouldn't work. I even tried going back to WoW and playing it more but it just bored me. Before I knew it I had done it again, this time with Second Life.

I think I am going to leave WoW. After my pay period runs out at the end of this month I am not going to renew. We've had some close moments and some good laughs but I think that it's time to move on to new things. I think what I really want in my life right now is to go out and play the field, sample a little of all the MMo's without having to make any sort of commitment.

I'm sorry WoW.... You'll always have a place in my heart....

PS3 Madden Doesn't Live up to Expectations

posted @ 1/13/2007 01:45:00 PM by Monkey Doo
I got a chance to sit down with a shiny new PS3 and play some Madden 07 recently. I have always been a big Madden fan, I still have a copy of the first one I ever bought for Genesis back in 1993. I had high expectations for this one since it was on a system that dwarfed the previous systems I had played the Madden series on, but I was sorely disappointed.

What I found was a very sloppy game. It had a menu that in an attempt to be slick and stylish was not very user friendly. The replays and videos of your team entering and getting ready for a play were incredibly choppy, usually unable to go a second without it freezing up for a little bit. It had lost the franchise mode I had come to love and instead focused mainly on Superstar mode, which was a big disappointment.

The concept of Superstar mode itself was not bad. It's a cool to control yourself on a team and fight towards greatness. The problem with this is that there is oftentimes not much to do. I don't enjoy sitting down to a game with a controller in my hand and just watching. Since you could only control your player, that's all you really did. As a quarterback I was able to get some control but as a cornerback I lost interest very quickly. I had no control over the offense and on defense I ended up covering sides of the field that the opposing team never passed to anyway. To make this mode more frustrating, the UI was awful. Every time my QB handed off the ball to the running back he would run right into a mob of the opponent. In every game I played via superstar mode my RB only once got a gain of above three yards. It wasn't because I had a bad team either, last time I checked Tiki Barber was pretty good at running.

They tried to showcase the better look and playability of the system but that also fell short. Not only did they have choppy videos but they used terrible camera angles to show off the field. They continually used a shot that was from the entrance into the mid level seating down onto the field. The problem with this view was that it showcased how bad the audience was. I counted only three models in the entire stadium, and from that terrible camera view you could see how flat their were as well as mysterious floating pixels.

I still have hopes for the game, though not on this system. Perhaps the X-box 360 will be able to handle the graphics better or maybe the Wii innovative controller will make it as fun to play as Wii bowling. Perhaps EA having exclusives on the NFL means the end of some great games however....

    South Park Review: Stanley's Cup.

posted @ 11/16/2006 06:47:00 PM by Monkey Doo
Monkey Doo here to lay down a few words on the latest South Park episode. Some of life's greatest questions will be answered within these paragraphs. Things you have always wondered like "When will it be ok to make fun of Steve Irwin?", "Do the underdog teams always triumph in those sports movies?" and "How do I get the rash to go away?" All this and more within this exciting review of South Park! (spoilers within)

This is episode 1014 of South Park and I have to admit, it is one of my favorites. Stan loses his bike and his job. Not knowing what to do he is directed to County Hall to talk to the person in charge of his impounded bike. This man is my favorite South Park character I have ever seen. He likes to pull out a record player and voice movie trailers on the spot. What's more, he has the uncanny ability to pop up just about anywhere. :) This hilarious man informs Stan that the only thing he can do to get some cash is to couch the local Pee Wee Hockey team.

The children are absolutely hilarious. Stan goes through the list, giving each of them positions to play until he gets to the goalie. This kid cracks me up too much. He says, "Coach my doctor says I am not allowed to play goalie. ...Because I have cancer." The whole group freaks out thinking that if they play on the team with him they will get cancer too. XD

The big game is approaching and the kid with cancer is placed in the hospital. His only wish is that the pee wee team can win the game. So Stan makes him that promise. The only problem is that both teams really really suck, so no one scores. It just so happens that the cancer kids fate was tied with the game, so now life and death are tied within him.

The team has another chance to save him during one of the breaks of an Avalanche vs. Redwings game. During a meeting the team answers the oh most sacred question of if it is time to make fun of Steve Irwin or not. While talking about the game one of them says "We're going down like Steve Irwin in a pool full of Manta Rays.

They show up and get a pep talk about how they can't lose because the underdog in sports films always rises to triumph. The only problem is that the other team doesn't show up. The Avalanche, being the nice team that they are, let's the pee wee's play during the third quarter of the their game. The Redwings trounce the hell out of them. One of them actually picks up a kid and begins punching him in the face. Needless to say, the pee wee's lose. The final scene is the cancer kid laying in his bed saying "No hope.... No hope...." before dying.

Funniest quote of the episode:Coach, can we please win so that my daddy won't beat me tonight?"
[I'll edit this later with some pics for ya guys. :)]

    Return of MonkeyDoo

posted @ 10/31/2006 03:57:00 PM by Monkey Doo
I have not been around very much lately, I got a little wrapped up in my schooling. I recently had a revelation though, one that would set my path straight. Why am I wasting my time on all this education and things like that when I could be out playing video games? It was this startling realization that brought me here tonight to give you a little taste of a game I like to think of as one of the best RTS' ever made, Rise of Legends.

The premise of Rise of Legends is pretty simple. Long ago a spacecraft broke into three pieces (and I think I saw a fourth >.>) and crashed upon some planet. These three parts (and maybe a fourth >.>) developed into three distinct and equally bad ass nations, the Vinci, the Alin, and the Cuotl. Each of whom have really cool Master Units that you can only have one of. The game is similar in structure to most RTS' except for a few things. You are given a city, much like other games, and you build upon this city. Say you want to have a higher troop capacity, build a military district. If you cap out on how much resources you are gathering, build a merchant district. Each of the three races also has a unique district that only they can build. As you get more districts you can build palace districts to upgrade the cities size. You can go from normal city, to Large, to Great. Each time you go up you get sweeter upgrades.

The first of these cool nations is called the Vinci. They are basically Spanish Conquistadors meets steam technology. They have cool units like Gyrocopters, Clockwork men, and even a Juggernaut tank. They improve their technology by building industrial districts in their cities. These guys are my favorite so far. There is something so cool about leading an army of clumsy robot men and spiders that look like miniature versions of the one from Wild Wild West. You can also build research centers as these guys, which you can upgrade to do all sorts of nifty things. Their Master Unit is called the Land Leviathan. It basically is the huge thing from Wild Wild West. Alas, I have yet to figure out how to get this unit, if any of you can get it, send the info my way.

The next group on the list is the Alin. The Alin are almost straight out of Arabian Nights. They are a magic using desert people. These guys have some pretty crazy units, everything from giants made out of glass to soldiers that can hide in the sand and spring out for an ambush. The Alin use magic and creatures related to three things, Sand, Fire, and Glass. Glass units can be upgraded to Dark Glass, which do some really wicked things. Their special unit is the Magus District, which gives them research points and buffs their hero’s magic beefiness. The Master Unit for these guys is probable the coolest in my opinion, a huge glass dragon.

Finally the last army is the mysterious Cuotl. They are by far the oddest of the lot. Basically they still use much of the technology that was available to them when the space ship crashed, and they worship Gods…. Gods that you can actually get on the battlefield to fight for you. They use a lot of units that remind me of the Power Rangers. I feel the urge to call out beasts and then have them morph into wicked robots. Alas, this is not their Master Unit, though they do have a really cool one. It’s a big floating building called the City of Vengeance. This guys absolutely tears things apart, and he can store troops too! Instead of wealth, the Cuotl gather energy. This means their Merchant District as been replaced with a Reactor District. They also get a Holy District, which allows them to expand their land and it rewards them a free unit.

Rise of Legends is well worth the money I spent on it. I find myself losing hours upon hours playing this game. Not only is it pretty to look at, but it is the most inventive RTS I have ever played. I would recommend this for any fan of the game type, and I think it would be a worthy play for someone who is looking to get into RTS for the first time. Now I shall go and waste more time upon it!

This summer seems to have been a bust for movies. There have been a few movies out that grabbed my attention, but even they were weak. With the summer over, I hoped to throw my chips in on The Covenant and find some sort of gem.

It was a few days ago that I saw this movie. I can honestly say that taking the 15 bucks it cost to see the flick and going and waving it in front of blind homeless people would have been much more entertaining and satisfying. The Covenant is easily one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. It is not that the movie is the worst thing since Retail, it just completely lacked what I had expected it to have.

When I sat down I was waiting for an action packed film similiar to Underworld, but there was almost none of that. It seemed like it was meant to be a plot based movie, but there was not much meat to the plot so they stretched it out as long as they could. To hide this they implemented the use of scare tactics/the gross out factor. If I hadn't gone to see the movie with someone, I would have slept through the whole thing.

I am interested in the opinions of the sorry fools who have already seen this movie. Is it just me that finds this in the movie? Has my hope that Hollywood will produce tons of high quality movies with good plot blinded me? Give me a reply or hit me up on aim at monkeydooinc.

I wanted to get everyone's opinion on who the best video game villian who ever was.

In my opinion the best villian in existance is Arthas from Warcraft 3. He is absolutely sick in my opinion. I can not think of a game which shows the descent into darkness better, nor one that has cooler videos. The scene in which he returns to Lorderan after all that happened (not gonna spoil this shit cause you all should check out the game, if even just to see the bad ass that is Arthas) is the coolest damn thing I have ever seen in a game. Though I have to admit Archimonde from the same game is pretty bad ass, too. Man, you'd think by the way I talk that I worship the ground that Blizzard walks on. But that is absolutly ridiculous. ...I am gonna go play some more World of Warcraft.

Sorry I haven't been posting, it's been a crazy past couple of weeks. But I'm back from Vegas and my house has internet so now I'll be back here writing mildly entertaining works that you only read so you can get candy. I feel like such a tool....

So part of what I saw in Vegas was the Star Trek: the Experience in the Hilton Hotel and Casino. I was a week short of going to the Star Trek convention but fear not, I grabbed a really interesting sounding tidbit. Apparently there is a Star Trek MMO in the works. Now this isn't gonna be your run of the mill WoW style "I am gonna hit 2 buttons and level to 60" MMO. This baby is hard freaking core. Say you chose to be an engineer, there is a HUGE interface in which you actually have to sit there and fix an engine problem by moving around a system of vents and some other stuff. According to what I have read you will not only have a crew of live people for your ship, but you will be able to take them onto land for expeditions.

There isn't too much info at this point but you can see everything they have available at here (NinJa, I can't get the stupid thing to work as a link... Fix it!! lol )
all fixed says the NinJa *poof*
