    GTAIV Giveaway: XBox 360 Elite

    posted @ 4/21/2008 09:09:00 PM by Ninjasistah
In case you missed it, we are giving away an XBox 360 to a lucky [and clever] viewer. It could be you, you lucky bastard!

If you are one of the poor unfortunate souls to yet listen to the ESH podcast, we've recently become part of the All Games Radio Network and have partnered with the rest of the clan on the network to give one of our collective awesome fans a GTAIV Limited Edition Xbox 360 Elite. This is not one of the completely pimped out deals with the briefcase full of peripherals, but is a free XB360 nonetheless. Wanna know how you can win it?

Here's the deal: One of the cornerstones of the GTA series is the in-game radio stations, complete with spoof ads and spoof segments. Now's the time for you to step up and create your own... for ESH.

Submit a sound clip no longer than 120 seconds in the style of a GTA4 Radio Station commercial for ESH. It can be a spoof ad, segment, song, whatever. While we prefer you submit only an ad for ESH to this site, you can create ads for all of the participants from the All Games Radio Network, which include the following:

    • All Games Interactive
    • Dead Pixel Live
    • The Bobby Blackwolf Show
    • Orange Lounge Radio
    • Superhappyfuntimeshow
    • ElectricSistaHood
    • MediSpective
    • ChatterBox Video Game Radio
    • Video Game Outsiders
    • Ultimate Quest
    • The Video Games Show
    • Platform Nation

    THE RULES
    1. The entry can be in the form of an MP3 emailed to the affiliate show OR as a voicemail left on that show's voicemail line.
    2. Only one entry per affiliate show, however multiple affiliate shows can be entered with unique audio clips. (No sending the same audio to multiple shows.)
    3. Submissions will either be played on the affiliate show or put up on
the show's website (or forums.allgames.com) and will be voted on via the community in a poll with the results hidden. Winners of these votes advance to the final round.
    4. If one person wins multiple affiliate contests, a coin flip will determine which show he/she wins, the other show chooses the runner-up as their finalist.
    5. The contest is only open to North American residents, as it is an NTSC console.
    6. No copywritten materials are permitted in the entry - parody is okay, just don't use the original.
    7. All submissions become the property of the affiliate show they are submitted to, as they will be used in promotion of that show.
    8. Cast and crew of the participating affiliate shows are not eligible.
    9. The decisions of the judges (affiliate show hosts at the affiliate level, All Games Radio at the final level) is final.

    THE SCHEDULE
    • Sunday, April 20th: Submission period opens
    • Sunday, May 4th: Submission deadline at midnight PT, 3am EST

You got that? You could win a FREAKING XBox Elite MAN!!!! All you got to do is create a GTAIV style radio ad for ESH or any of the All Games Radio Affiliates and submit it [via email] to us as an MP3 with your contact info to this address.

Being Monday and all, far be it from us to keep a new episode of the ESH podcast from you.

Hello folks, guess what? I've been working on fixing the site again... this time it's worked out pretty well.

You know how before, our search was based on Technorati which didn't always crawl the site on the regular? [yeah, I know it sucked ass as a search for podcast page.] But I've worked out a new search, using Google [just like everyone else on the interweb] and it works pretty damn well.

First off, it's new podcast episode time again here at Electric Sista Hood, and this one is a doosie. We've always tagged our podcast as "explicit" because it would take more time to edit out crap to make it "clean enough for iTunes" than it's worth. This week's really drives this fact into the ground, so I'm taking this extra opportunity to warn you, that this episode is NOT INTENDED FOR CHILDREN TO LISTEN TO!

In case you haven't caught on yet, this is episode 69 of the ESH podcast, and we figured it would only be proper to do an all hentai episode of the show. Pandalicious gives you the low down on Please Teacher and admits to a few of her own personal fetishes while MagicMystic talks about the dojinshiAlice in Sexland by Mashumaro Jyuubaori. Closing out the hour, NinJaSistah chimes in with the reasons for her preferences in hentai, and desire for at lease some semblance of plot.

Monday brings with it yet another new episode of the ESH podcast. This episode I have to say, was kinda a weird one. Good, but weird.

It's just the two sistahs Pandalicious and NinJaSistah holding it down for episode 68. Pandalicious tries to help NinJaSistah wrap her mind around the anime series Nerima Daikon Brothers, and I emphasize the word tries. Then on the flipside of the hour, NinJaSistah glosses over some of the news from the Tokyo Game Show and shares her first impressions of the PS3 title Heavenly Sword.

Yeap, it's a fun, and weird hour this week, and if you don't believe me, just check out the rejected titles for this weeks episode:

    The Non-JOYofTECH

    posted @ 9/07/2007 01:55:00 PM by Ninjasistah
Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. today announced that it has sold substantially all of the assets of its wholly owned Joytech video game accessories subsidiary to Mad Catz Interactive, Inc.

The Joytech sale supposedly reflects Take-Two's previously announced plans to divest its non-core businesses. I say, it's Take-Two trimming the fat from the company body.
"The sale of the Joytech assets is consistent with one of the key goals we established in our 100 Day Plan: to develop strategic alternatives for any operations that we determined to be outside our core publishing business,"
said Ben Feder, Take-Two's Chief Executive Officer. He then went on to say,
"We are particularly pleased that we accomplished this goal in a manner that will allow substantially all of our Joytech employees in the U.S. and U.K. to join Mad Catz, which is a highly respected provider of video game peripherals."

What I want to know is if this sale is going to help make the MadCatz peripherals any better. Can I get an amen? Can I?

Since it's nearly Monday and I am pooped, I decided to go ahead and post this weeks episode early as I may very well sleep the entire day away tomorrow.

Sure, sure, you may think I'm sounding like a lazy ninja, but I'm not. Every ninja worth his shuriken knows that one must heal all wounds and restore his strength before returning to a fight. That sounds so much better than just being "lazy!"

Back to this week's podcast episode. Pandalicious shares her experience with the cyberpunk comic Transmetropolitan, MagicMystic remembers the anime series Saiyuki and NinJaSistah drops the 411 on some upcoming game demos, releases, and general game deliciousness.

It's a fun day in the hood, so enjoy Episode 64: We Reveal the Secret to a Womans Pants!

You may have noticed that some things have changed around the site again... and this time it's not a subtle change.

I spent some time talking it over with the ladies and we were all in agreement that there needed to be a major change in how things look and run around here in the land of ESH. The conversation travelled around and around in a circle between Pandalicious MagicMystic and myself. Cussing? Sure, there was lots of it. Promises of bodily harm being dolled out with the harshness? I can't say that words to those effects were never spoken. I will say that I didn't kill anyone... even though troubleshooting this design layout made me want to off a few people more often than not.

Actually if I am honest, Panda and Magic's actual response was more like, "You're doing what? Yeah. Okay. Whatever."

So take a gander at the new frESHness, just about everything worth moving over to this new look and sexy feel has been converted and I'm anxious to hear [um, see] what you think of the new hood!

First up at bat is Panda "Stop Saying I Have Herpes" licious who shares with us her experiences with the anime Hare+Guu, which [like many anime series] is very weird.

Magic "I Forgot About the Giant Ball Monster" MysticGrl chimes in at the number two slot to share with us EVEN MORE .Hack// goodness with us by imparting her sort of found wisdom from .Hack//roots.

Then NinJaSistah brings the show home with her 40 second review of Virtua Fighter 5 for the PS3 and then dives head first into her latest anime obsession, Phantom Memory Kurau.

Since it's Monday an all we figured we better keep to script and give you guys a new episode of our podcast. It's with great pleasure I give you Episode 46: Care Bears Are Racist Bastards.

In this episode of the ESH podcast Pandalicious shares the first of her "A Thought, by Pandalicious" series. You might be asking yourself, "...what could that girl be thinking about now?" Well, she wonders about what the western world would be like if it was more anime in nature. Yeah, wrap your mind around that. Deep, man. Just deep.

MagicMysticGrl jumps into the mix with her take on Saiunkoku Monogatari a.k.a. Tale of the Land of Many-Colored Clouds. Saiunkoku is the tale of a girl pursuing a path of enlightenment that is not afforded women in her country and the trouble and hijinks that unfailingly follow on such a journey.

Then NinJaSistah brings home the show with her take on the new PSP push by Sony to save a sinking mobile gaming device ship. Will the new price point, ad campaign, and re-focusing of the target demographic help or hurt the so called killer app?

All you can do is take a listen and share your thoughts. So grab a cup of joe and a bagel, it's time for Electric Sista Hood podcast episode #46, Care Bears Are Racist Bastards!.

Another Monday, another new episode of the Electric Sista Hood podcast. This time MagicMysticGrl and NinjaSistah go it alone to talk of things manwa and PC gaming in nature.

Well, not literally nature as is grass and trees and earth, but I'm sure you get the meaning. MagicMysticGrl shares some insights on the manwa title Can't Lose You by Wann which has the making of a great movie or at least daytime soap opera. Can't Lose You starts off like the Prince and the Pauper, but adds a layer of "say what?" and "you're related to who?" to keep the reader flipping through each volumes pages ferociously.

NinjaSistah kicks off the newly sponsored PC game title reviews thanks to Velocity Micro with, amazingly enough, World of Warcraft! Shame it had to be on a week where Pandalicious couldn't join the crew. If you want to know if WoW has a new addict fan or not, you're just going to have to give this episode a listen.

The Making of ESH: The Musical

    posted @ 2/26/2007 09:19:00 AM by evermore
What starts out as a normal episode of ElectricSistaHood becomes something completely different just a few minutes into the podcast.

With classic overtones inspired by Orson Welles' broadcast of War of the Worlds, this week's episode morphs into a history of modern music. We think you'll enjoy it.

For those of you interested in learning how this week's episode was created, please read on...

    THE MAKING OF EPISODE 41

When Ninjasisth and Pandalicious' father died a week ago, there was a question about how the next episode would be handled. It was debated whether we should have MagicMysticGrl do her long-awaited Top 5 show, a clip show of past episodes or take a week or two in hiatus.

The hiatus was ruled out almost immediately -- the Sistahs' fans needed their weekly fix of the electronic goodness. MagicMysticGrl wasn't finished with her notes on the Top 5 episode (it will air next week instead), so fashioning together a clip show was the order of the day.

As the producer of the shows since Episode 32, I was assigned the task of putting together a clip show. I have been planning to put together a clip show to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the show in May, but didn't have anything prepared at such short notice.

So I took a different direction on a clip show. With the Sistahs' proclivity toward singing on the show, I thought I should put together a musical clip show, featuring the Sistahs' singing along with samples of the original songs.

I collected various clips of the Sistahs' singing songs ranging from Eric Carmen's classic "All By Myself" to one of many Ethel Merman renditions of "Everything's Coming Up Roses" to the Shari Lewis and Lamb Chop title theme from their 1990s PBS show. To tie the songs together, I collected a variety of those cheesy Ktel music album commercials -- pop, rock, disco, country, soul and even a collection of Jim Nabors cover songs.

All that remained was to include never-before-heard clips at the beginning of the podcast. Luckily, there were a few to be had. The intro of the episode was taken from an out-take from last week's episode. Ninjasistah had recorded three intros for Episode 40. If you listen closely, we changed the word "forty" to "forty-one" in the episode number by carefully cutting the syllables "ty one" from episode 31 and pasting them in place of the last syllable of "forty". This was the kind of stuff I learned all those years ago in college.

For the opening sequence itself, I stole an out-take from Episode 32. The Sistahs had originally recorded it 10 weeks ago, but an errant cell phone went off in the opening minutes, so they decided to record it again from scratch. We ended up using the second take in the Episode 32 podcast.

The rest of it was just cutting and pasting. Basically, interspersed between a bunch of old Ktel promos for record albums of the past was clips of the Sistahs singing. When possible, I added sequences of the actual song they were (trying) to sing.

I had a lot of success finding these songs. The newer ones were the easiest to locate. There were just a couple that posed some problems finding. The hardest to find was the opening of "Lamb Chop's Playalong," which I finally found on a website devoted to theme songs of kids shows.

There are a couple of corrections that have to be made about the Sistahs' comments on this show. First, Ninjasistah is incorrect about the copyright nature of the song "Everything's Coming Up Roses." Although Ethel Merman is, indeed, dead, that doesn't affect the copyright nature of the song. The song is still under copyright protection -- it has not fallen into the public domain. Heck, it's not even that old. It comes from the musical Gypsy, which was first produced on Broadway in 1959.

The second correction has to do with the song Return to Innocence. On the podcast, Pandalicious says it was done by Enya, but she is mistaken. It was actually done by Enigma (an easy mistake to make).

Please enjoy this week's podcast and please come back for a special Top 5 episode on Bleach, presented by MagicMysticGrl. We hope you enjoy them.

    A Death in the Sistahood

    posted @ 2/24/2007 11:01:00 PM by evermore
If you've noticed that NinjaSistah and Pandalicious haven't contributed to ElectricSistaHood for the past week, there is a good reason. Their father died a week ago and they've been dealing with family issues.

Their father, Elijah Britton of Mass., died suddenly Saturday, Feb. 17, of cardiac arrest. The funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 24. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for contributions toward the college fund of Pandalicious. If you would like to contribute, please click the "Hit Us Up" link and ask for more information.

The Sistahs will take a couple of weeks off from their regular podcasts to deal with their loss. In the meantime, we will feature a special musical "clip show" Monday that we think you'll really like. The next Monday, MagicMysticGrl will present a Top 5 special on Bleach. Hopefully, the sistahs will resume regular podcasts by Monday, March 12.

Anyone familiar with the ElectricSistaHood podcasts knows the influence their father -- known by his friends as "E.J." -- had on their lives. He influenced me as well in the eight years since I first met him.

One story is particularly telling. In the summer of 2004, I was between jobs and was working very hard to get a new gig. I got a couple of job interviews in the Boston area, so I asked if I could crash a few nights at the Britton home while I interviewed in town.

I traveled to Boston on Amtrak, but couldn't go into the city because the Democratic National Convention was being held there the same week. Amtrak trains to Boston ended at the Route 128 station outside of town, so I asked E.J. to pick me up there.

Rather than waiting for me at the station, he told me to go outside and look for a building next to the station. He would be waiting in the parking lot under a big GM sign. But when I arrived at the station, it had just been remodeled. The station exited to a giant parking garage. There was no building or GM sign in sight.

After walking around a little, I finally wandered out of the parking garage and saw him waiting patiently in his car in a big driveway.

"Where's the building?" I asked him as I got close to the car.

"I guess they tore it down," he said.

"Where's the GM sign?" I asked.

"It's over there," he said as he pointed. The sign was completely hidden by a giant tree.

He was exactly where he said he would be. Everything else had changed around him.

Tomorrow when we look for E.J., we know exactly where his body will be -- on the side of a hill in a quiet little cemetary where his daughters learned how to drive.

But that's just his body. Finding E.J. will be a lot harder. I know I'll be spending a long time looking for E.J. The only thing I know is that he'll be waiting in a driveway next to a GM sign hidden by a big tree and a building that's no longer there.

A New Podcast Episode for You

    posted @ 2/18/2007 07:12:00 PM by evermore
The theme of this week's podcast is summed up by MagicMysticGrl: "We feed you. We clothe you. We amuse you." And it contains dozens of memorable lines you'll be repeating for weeks to come. Click to get episode 40: I Want to Be In a Vending Machine

Pandalicious starts things off with an anime called "Air," which is derived from, of all things, a dating Sim. And although the universe of Air is populated by dozens of girls and just one guy, Pandalicious finds it surprisingly good.

MagicMysticGrl can't pronounce the name of the movie Banlieue 13 (it's French), but under the Americanized name District B13, she was really taken with it and gives it very good marks.

NinjaSistah comes to the realization that the Internet is killing the lone gamer -- the pimply-faced kid sitting in his basement battling against the computer. PC games started the trend and consolers are increasingly making the switch to multi-player games and enjoying the interaction among gamers from all over.

It's an hour and 17 minutes of pure fun and we think you'll agree.

In this episode Pandalicious gives us the low-down on the wacky, weird, and well, bestial nature of the anime He Is My Master. She says it's only slightly pornish, I reserve my judgement until episode two gets reviewed. MagicMysticGrl tries to untangle the woven path of the manwa Priest and NinJaSistah talks exclusivity [or lack there of] between game developers and the PS3.

After recovering from my trip to CES last week I realized that we needed to add something to the regular content roster here at ESH. If you listen to our podcast then you already know that we don't just talk about video games and anime on the thing... we all let our gadget geek and puter geek show from time to time. As I was listening to the last few podcast episodes I found myself asking why we seemed to only let those sides of ourselves show during podcast recording sessions. As mom would say, "dat didn't make no sense!" So then I started a dialog with myself [as I often do] and after a few harsh words and a round of fisticuffs it came to me: we need to add gadgets to the roster on a regular basis, duh!

And lo, "Gear Up 4..." was born, sort of. We are starting to pull together the list of the type of items we want to feature in our new column and will [hopefully] be launching it fairly soon. Consider this our official letter of intention. Yeah, I like that. Welcome, to the new ESH! Home of the BEST gaming, gadgets, and anime reviews and podcast, ever.

    posted @ 1/01/2007 10:49:00 PM by Ninjasistah
In the year of our Bob two thousand and seven, ESH is proud to gift upon the world a new podcast episode

The first of it's kind this year. Kneel before Zod the awesomeness that is Electric Sista Hood!

All bombast aside, the ladies talk mostly about themselves in this episode... how they got into gaming, anime, manga, Trek, you name it! [That means there are tangents, enjoy em'] And since it's the only first podcast of the new year you are going to get from ESH we figured since you guys and gals always want to know more about us, we'd tell ya. You wanted to know more about the ladies of the sistahood, and so now you do, er, can, um, I mean, will?

Oh just listen to the episode and get to know our sticky balls. [It will make more sense once you listen to the episode]

Other than that, may your frags be bountiful, your life meter never empty, and your lag be nil.

    New Podcast Episode

    posted @ 12/25/2006 12:47:00 AM by Ninjasistah
Ok, I'm going to make this quick because I have to get to bed... you know, Santa won't blow up my spot until I'm "asleep" and all. [I'm really hopin' that mofo will give a sistah what she's so desperately been needin'... a new 5.1 surround sound system from Logitech]

So here's the new podcast episode.

In this episode MagicMysticGrl talks about the importance and relevance of bloodtypes in anime and manga, Pandalicious shares His and Her Circumstances [Kare Kano] and NinJaSistah kicks the hour off with her final thoughts on the PS3. PS3 fanboys that think I'm a XB360 fangirl have your keyboards at the ready. Episode 32: It's In The Blood is my gift to you.

Congrats to our Candy Bitches Mike Costa and Tooky!

    Did It Empathize His Buttock?

    posted @ 12/18/2006 12:52:00 AM by Ninjasistah
Yeah, I'm not sure what that title means either... other than it's new podcast episode day here at ESH!

Honestly, I'm not exactly sure about what we exactly discussed during the taping of this episode, but I do know that Pandalicious was fascinated by a new anime series she caught a glimpse of called Kanon and MagicMysticGrl had some beef with the feature length [or not near enough length] film Eragon.

Me? I just had a bit of "c'mon back to reality with the rest of us" Sony news, and wanted to ask the gals about some growing trends I'm noticing in anime more and more these days. Oh yeah, I talk a bit about UFO: Ultramaiden Valkyrie and let the other two try and do the closing business. It's a fun episode, enjoy.

    New Podcast Episode

    posted @ 12/11/2006 10:48:00 AM by Ninjasistah
Monday once again rears it's nasty head, so we give you ESH podcast episode 30 in hopes that you can combat the Monday ho-hums.

We sorta, kinda, well, "deviate" a bit from the planned topic slightly more than usual in this episode of the podcast... and while I can't remember everything we talk about in the episode as I write this [though I've listened to the episode a few time now] I can tell you that I remember talking about The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, La Corda d'Oro and Nintendo's Wiimote. At some point we also talk about Chris Farley, Oreos and reverse Oreos, Pandalicious' nuts being better than yours, and the Pokemon milkshake parody.

Oh yeah, can't forget the new "Magic Manga Mania" giveaway and to congratulate out new Candy Bitch: Andrew! Listen up people, it's getting crazy fun up in here!

    Artbooks: Gotta Love Em'

    posted @ 11/06/2006 01:42:00 PM by Ninjasistah
    Wanna see something purdy?

Looking through the email box, now that I had a moment to myself to collect my thoughts into a coherent block of text... nice of me to do huh?

I got an email from AnimeNation about a new Okami artbook they got in, and I have to say, it looks really interesting. According to the description,
This massive 296 page full color illustration collection archives the beautiful art of Okami, including early, prototype production design sketches, character and enemy monster designs, background art, and promotional illustrations.

Go on, give it a gander... and if you like artbooks, pick it up.

    posted @ 10/07/2006 10:37:00 PM by Ninjasistah
Finally one of the folks that previously got free candy from us has graced us with an image...

PhreakMac [who is the MAN!] was able to take some incriminating photos of his debug kit eating his candy reward! All I can imagine is Cartman from South Park yelling out, "NOOOO XBOX 360, THAT'S MY CANDY BITCH CANDY!!!!"

Anways, pop yer ass over to the candy bitch gallery and check it out.
